Carrier Refrigeration Sponsors World Cold Chain Symposium 2023 to Help Drive Innovation

The 2023 World Cold Chain Symposium took place on Oct. 21, at the United Nations Conference Center in Nairobi, Kenya.  
 
Carrier Refrigeration was a proud sponsor of the 2023 World Cold Chain Symposium, a global conference organized by The Global Food Cold Chain Council (GFCCC) in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) OzonAction.
 
As a contributor, Carrier had the opportunity to facilitate international visibility and discussion around this year’s theme, Sustainable Growth: Building Business Models for Cold Chain Development. The content aligned with Carrier’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals to reduce food waste and greenhouse gas emissions while increasing food security.

Participating organizations from governments, NGOs and the private sector, included UNEP (OzonAction and the Cool Coalition), the Ozone Secretariat, the Multilateral Fund Secretariat and Council, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, Ministry of Energy of Kenya, and representatives from private sectors involved in the development of the cold chain.
 
Speakers shared details of the impacts and challenges of project implementation by local project representatives and the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs to develop sustainable cold chain systems by developing the best business models and practices for significant projects. Jimmy Washington, Director of Sustainability and Cold Chain Development, Refrigeration, Carrier, led a session highlighting the importance of technological innovation in the cold chain.

Finally, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration announced a collaboration with Germany’s development agency GIZ to establish the first CO2 transcritical regional supermarket training center in East Africa.
 
The GFCCC is an independent not-for-profit industry organization that seeks to simultaneously reduce food waste and related greenhouse gas emissions in the processing, transportation, storage and retail display of cold food by expanding and improving access to energy-efficient low-global warming potential technology. Carrier is a founding member of the GFCCC and actively participates in its mission.
