Carrier’s Hispanic Heritage Month Call to Action: “Vamos, Let’s Break Through Together!”
RIT

Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration honoring the culture, contributions and history of Hispanic Americans with roots in Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Carrier’s Hispanic & Latino Employee Engagement Resource Group, or CHEER, sponsored a series of events between September and October, around the theme of “Vamos, Let’s Break Through Together!” acknowledging the incredible contributions Hispanic people have made globally.

Carrier kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with guest speaker Anna Maria Chavez, Esq., former Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of the USA and the first woman of color to head the organization. Chavez spoke about the importance of being authentic and how organizations can support environments where everyone feels they belong. She currently travels the country speaking to aspiring leaders on effective leadership.

David Gitlin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carrier, participated in the Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff event. He spoke about fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity which makes the company stronger. “I think there is something very special about the different Hispanic cultures we see every day. One out of five people in the United States is of Hispanic descent, and it has a profound impact on our country and a very profound impact on Carrier,” said Gitlin. “We want to create a culture at Carrier where people are recognized, seen for who they are and are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work.”

Carrier concluded Hispanic Heritage Month activities with more than 30 employees running and walking in the CHEER 5K 2022 race held at Carrier’s world headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to benefit the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to Latino students, as well as related support services and tools to assist with graduation, applying to college, entering a profession and more. This year, Carrier and its employees donated over $13,000 for the scholarship fund.

“These employee events and the scholarship donation support the company’s Social Responsibility efforts.
