Carrier Celebrates Collaboration with The Nature Conservancy
RIT
Carrier volunteers in Shanghai, China participated in World Environment Day at the Hongxu Habitat Garden.

As Carrier enters the third year of its $3 million-dollar, multiyear commitment to The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the company is celebrating the projects that are addressing climate change and restoring natural habitats around the globe. The collaboration closely aligns with Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) goals of promoting sustainability through education, partnerships and climate resiliency programs, especially in communities where employees live and work. Great work and progress were made in 2021 in Carrier’s collaboration with the TNC, including:

  • Urban Biodiversity Conservation – China: Carrier’s support of TNC’s Build Healthy Cities initiative is helping cities become more resilient and sustainable. In China, habitat gardens are combating the impacts of urbanization by creating communal greenspaces that serve as habitats for plants and wildlife, as well as reducing the impact of climate change.
  • Providing Access to Sustainable, Clean Water – China and Mexico: Carrier also supports projects that provide access to sustainable, clean water. In Mexico, the Monterrey Metropolitan Water Fund provides residents with quality water. In China, Carrier contributes to the Qiandao Lake Water Fund, which provides clean water for 24 million people and protects Asia’s longest river, the Yangtze River.
  • Preserving Wooded Areas – Americas: With Carrier’s support, TNC held several “weed wrangles” where employee volunteers removed invasive plants to preserve the ecosystem and increase biodiversity. Training workshops in Mexico helped educate the community on forest fire prevention and wildlife monitoring, and forest restoration projects took place to benefit native plants and animals.
  • Coastal Restoration – United States: Carrier also supports the TNC’s coastal restoration projects, including the Resilient Island Project, which assists with restoring 194 acres of oyster reefs, mangroves and shoreline habitat in Florida. In 2021, permits were pulled as the first step in the process of building a resilient island in the Lake Worth Lagoon. The island will protect neighboring communities from storms and provide a food source for native birds. Carrier volunteers also participated in beach clean-ups to restore habitat along the South Florida coast.
  • Virtual Educational Programming for Students – United States: Finally, through its collaboration with TNC, Carrier is investing in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programs and supports educational programming for youth. In 2021, Carrier and the TNC offered virtual field trips, videos, activities and STEM curriculum to students from elementary school to high school.
Carrier’s 2030 ESG goals underscore its commitment to addressing the planet’s most complex challenges and inspiring confidence for people everywhere. With 2022 upon us, Carrier is looking forward to continued collaboration with The Nature Conservancy to help make communities more resilient, healthy and equitable for generations to come.
